National Junior Honor Society

The NJHS is an organization that creates an enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulates a desire for service, promotes leadership, develops character and encourages students to be good citizens.  Please use the following information to help you complete your application. Recommendation forms and applications can be found at the bottom of this page. Only students in grades 8 and 9 with a 90% overall GPA who have received a letter can apply.

Leadership
The student who exercises leadership…
  • Demonstrates leadership in promoting school activities.
  • Exercises positive influence on peers in upholding school ideals.
  • Contribute ideas that improve the civic life of the school.
  • Is able to delegate responsibilities.
  • Exemplifies positive attitudes.
  • Inspires positive behavior in others.
  • Demonstrates academic initiative.
  • Successfully holds school offices or positions of responsibility, conducting business efficiently and effectively, and without prodding, demonstrates reliability and dependability.

Service
The student who serves…

  • Is willing to uphold scholarship and maintain a loyal school attitude.
  • Participates in some outside activities such as: Girl Scouts; Boy Scouts; church groups; volunteer services for aged, poor, or disadvantaged; family duties.
  • Works well with others and is willing to take on difficult or inconspicuous responsibilities.
  • Cheerfully and enthusiastically renders any requested service to the school.
  • Does committee and staff work without complaint.
  • Shows courtesy by assisting to visitors, teachers, and students.

Character
The student of character…

  • Takes criticism willingly and accepts recommendations graciously.
  • Upholds principles of morality and ethics.
  • Cooperates by complying with school regulations concerning property, programs, office, halls, etc.
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of honesty and reliability.
  • Shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others.
  • Manifests truthfulness in acknowledging obedience to rules, avoiding cheating in written work, and showing unwillingness to profit by the mistakes of others.

Citizenship
The student who demonstrates citizenship…

  • Understands the importance of civic involvement.
  • Has a high regard for freedom, justice, and respect of the American form of government.
  • Demonstrates mature participation and responsibility through involvement with such activities as scouting, community organizations, and school clubs.
